What I Will Never Be
”Just because everything is different doesn’t mean anything has changed” - Irene Peter
What I Will Never Be
Been a foreman, been a slave
Been an owner, been a laborer
Been gooey, been a tough cookie
Why are others just plain lucky?
Been a mom, been a dad
Been a daredevil and a drifter
Been holed up in the room, been Zen-like
As I watched our distance turn into a dike.
Been stuck in a rut, I quit the fight
Been cast in a negative light
Been a feat left unpraised
But our dreams I continued to chase.
Been putting up with their shenanigan
Been playing the field
Been tied with a chain
Now I’m entrapped, ensnared.
Been living in the moment
Things are not so bad
But what I will never be
is truly complete since it is not you with me.
